Maintaining your health while working in the sex industry is
VERY important,

remember - if you get sick, you can't work!

Looking after yourself can be quite simple,
Here are some tips:
  • I know you've probably heard it enough, but adequate WATER intake helps your body (and brain) deal with any issues, including keeping your skin looking good!   Most Doctors recommend that you drink at least 2 litres of plain water per day - this might seem excessive, but if you remember to take a 1 litre bottle of water with you while you're working and sip from it regularly you'll get half of your water intake without even trying!
  • Diet - remember to BALANCE! Of course if you're an average kinda person, you'll probably have days where all you're craving is junk food - but remember to ensure that the following day you eat some things that are GOOD for you!
Example 1:  One of my favourite things to take with me to eat while "on duty" was a great big
Greek Salad!  ( usually I just pick at it when I feel like snacking )
Example 2:  If you're a chippie lover, try and alternate between potato chips and corn chips or rice crackers etc, variety is the spice of life!
  • Make Up - Unfortunately for most of us, wearing makeup is part of the job! Daily application of makeup can affect your appearance quite badly depending on your skin type, especially if your the kind of girl who flops into bed after a long day forgetting to remove it! A good plan of action is to try natural cosmetics that don't contain nasty ingredients, and also try some makeup removing "wipes" so that your end of day routine is simple and quick!
  • Oral Hygeine - make sure you brush your teeth regularly, especially important is cleaning after visiting with a client.(yes, after every client) Keep a separate toothbrush, toothpaste and small bottle of mouthwash in your workbag, that way you won't forget it! I have met a number of girls who think that as long as their breath smells ok, all is good - but do you really think chewing on a mint is an acceptable alternative to a good cleaning?
  • Regular Check Ups - no, I'm not talking about the clinic again! Visit your family doctor at least every three months for a quick physical. Keeping regular appointments will alert you to any change in your health, enabling you to act upon it sooner! Remember that your Doctor is not allowed to discuss your personal info with anyone else, so try to be honest aout yourself and your lifestyle, it helps.
  • Don't Overdo It ! -  Don't let anyone bully you into working 6 or 7 shifts a week, this really is too much for anyone to handle... I really don't mean to sound like your Mother, but overworking can result in a great deal of health problems, some of them long-term.  If you're working at a "busy" place, you might be doing 5-15 jobs per shift, and if you're working 6 or 7 shifts a week, can you imagine what damage is being done to your cervix? Be gentle with yourself!  Another common problem that results from overworking is a devastating effect on your Mental Health. "nervous breakdowns" are very common in the sex industry,  please take care!  Even if you're only working one shift a week, try to establish an after work routine to help your transition from work to home life.  ( After getting home, I used to have a shower/bath while listening to some favourite music that I didn't ever listen to at work, then I'd put on some daggy house clothes and settle for a while with a ciggarette and a stiff drink  :)

If YOU have any tips for others that you feel would be a great addition here,
please let me know! H x.
